Cabo Girao, Madeira
Cabo Girao in Madeira is one of Europe's tallest cliffs.

Cabo Girao is around 2 km from Câmara de Lobos to the west of Funchal and at its highest point is 589 meters (1,900 feet) above sea level. There are higher European cliffs in Norway and Ireland. A viewing platform at the top enables visitors with a head for heights to contemplate the sheer drop down to the sea.
There are terraced fields below the cliff (see image above to the right), which until 2003 were only accessible by boat. Now a cable car is in operation to allow farmers to reach their fields.
