Portugal's Post Office is largely reliable. The Portuguese postal service is run by CCT (Correios, Telégrafos e Telefones).
Post office is correios in Portuguese; selo is stamp.
Correio normal (ordinary mail) is sent in the red post boxes; correio azul (airmail) is posted in the blue boxes.
History
The history of Portugal's post office dates back to King Manuel I, who created the Correio Público back in 1520. The distinctive logo features a horseback figure blowing a horn and harks back to the service's early days.

Hours
Post offices in Portugal are open from Monday to Friday from 8.30 am to 6 pm and each major town should have a general post office with Saturday opening hours (usually in the morning). Smaller branches may close for lunch. There is a post office at Lisbon Airport.
Packages are often delivered to a post office rather than an address, so to pick up a parcel go to the counter marked Encomedas, similarly for poste restante.
In general allow 3-5 days for delivery in mainland Portugal for normal mail and longer for Madeira and the Azores. For next day delivery choose correio azul.
Registered mail should arrive the next day in Portugal.

Postcodes
Postcodes usually have seven digits. The first two digits represent one of the country's nine postal regions with Lisbon 10 and Porto 40. The next two digits are subdivisions of the postal region according to the sorting office. The three digits after the hyphen represent the building number or street address.

Stamps (selos) can be purchased from post offices or from shops and kiosks displaying the red and white correio symbol with the horse and bugle. Many newsagents will sell stamps in Portugal.

I think your postal system is not up to stander very poor
Dear Portuguese Post office
I visited Madeira in early January. I bought 15 stamps & cards & envelopes. I posted letters to England every day in proper boxes with proper postage.
The earliest posting was 8th January.
None of the cards or letters have arrived. It is 3rd February.
Please send me 15 euros for the waste of money on stamps.
