The ferry across the River Guardiana from Vila Real de Santo Antonio in Portugal to Ayamonte in Spain takes 15 minutes.
The ferry is a pleasant way to commute between the two towns. Remember that Spain is an hour ahead of Portuguese time.

Schedule
From September until February (Monday to Saturday), boats leave Vila Real de Santo Antonio at 10.30 am, 11.30 am, 12.30 pm, 1.30 pm, 2.30 pm, 3.30 pm, 4.30 pm, and 6.00 pm. On Sunday there are departures at 11 am, 12 pm, 1 pm, 2 pm, 4 pm and 5 pm.
Ferries from Ayamonte depart at 10.00 am, 11.00 am, 12.00 pm, 1.00 pm, 2.00 pm, 3.00 pm, 4.00 pm, 5.00 pm and 6.00 pm (Monday to Saturday). On Sunday there are departures at 11 am, 12 pm, 1 pm, 2 pm, 4 pm and 5 pm.
From March until June boats leave Vila Real de Santo Antonio from 10.30 am until 7 pm; from Ayamonte there are boats every 60 minutes from 10 am until 7 pm (Spanish time).
From June to September, boats leave Vila Real de Santo Antonio at 8.45 am, 9.30 am, 10.30 am, 11.30 am, 12.30 pm, 1.30 pm, 2.30 pm, 3.30 pm, 4.30 pm, and 6.00 pm. Ferries from Ayamonte depart at 9 am, 10.00 am, 11.00 am, 12.00 pm, 1.00 pm, 3.00 pm, 3.00 pm, 4.00 pm, 5.00 pm, and 6.15 pm.

Fares
The cost is 2.30 euros. Services on public holidays and Sundays are slightly reduced.

Further upstream the Guadiana International Bridge carries the A22/A49 highway linking Spain and Portugal across the river.
It is the third-longest bridge in Portugal and is the work of Portuguese engineer, José Luis Câncio Martins.
