Adega Faustino, Chaves
Adega Faustino, in the historic center of Chaves in northern Portugal, is an atmospheric place for a quick drink, lunch, petiscos (Portuguese tapas) or a more substantial evening meal. The establishment has been in business for over a century.
The large cobbled-floor space has some huge wine vats behind the bar and the walls are utilized as an impromptu gallery space for local artists. The service is middle-aged masculine and friendly.
The classic red and white tablecloths cover large communal tables ideal for socializing in groups. The extensive menu includes local salads, presunto ham and grilled main courses. Some of the typical menu items are: alheira sausage, codfish cakes, french fries, grilled octopus, tomato salad and tuna steaks. The portions are not overdone so you can sample a delicious range of typical Portuguese food.
As well as the art on the walls, Adega Faustino hosts occasional fado evenings. See their website below for details.
