Church of Santa Mariá, Covilhã
The Church of Santa Mariá in Covilhã in the Beira Alta region of Portugal is set in a small square near the Praça do Municipio.

History
The church dates originally from the 16th century. The superb azulejos tiles were added in the 1940's. The tiles depict various scenes from the life of the Virgin Mary.
Within the church are 11 chapels with 5 of them dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

Other churches in the town include Capela De São Joao De Malta, São Silvestre, the Igreja da Misericórdia da Covilhã, the Igreja do Sagrado Coração de Jesus (S. Tiago) and the Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Conceição - São Francisco. The Museu de Arte Sacra has a large collection of religious art housed in a finehouse from the 1920's.
